The Panther 02:44
The Panther German poem Rainer Maria Rilke, Translation and Music Jan Hauenstein In the Jardin des Plantes, Paris (Cj7) (Fj7) (F)(Fj7)(F)(G) (Am) (F) (G) (Am) And, from the (Dm)constant passing (E)of the bars, (E/B)his (Am)gaze Has grown so (F)weary, there´s no (G)image it (G/B)can (Am)see. (Fj7)(F)(Fj7)(G) To (Am)him, a thousand (Dm)bars (E)pass in (E/B)a (Am)haze - Behind the (F)thousand bars the (G)world has ceased (G/B)to (Am)be. (Fj7)(F)(Fj7)(G) (Cj7) (Fj7) (F)(Fj7)(F)(G) (Am) (Am7/E) (Dm) Around the (Bb/D)tiniest of (Am)circles (Am7/E)pace His (Fj7)steps, his (G)powerful (G/B)soft (Am)strides, (Am7/E) (Dm) They´re like a (Bb/D)dance of strength a(Am)round a (Am7/E)place Where(Fj7)in a mighty (G)(hold)will stands, para(Am)lyzed. (Fj7)(F)(Fj7)(G) (Cj7) (Fj7) (F)(Fj7)(F)(G) (Am) (F) (G) (Am) Only at (Dm)times the curtain (E)of the pu(E/B)pils (Am)slides Up, (F)quietly. - A (G)picture en(G/B)ters (Am)then, (Fj7)(F)(Fj7)(G) (Am) And through the (Dm)stillness of tense (E)limbs (E/B)it (Am)glides - And (F)in the heart is (G)(hold)quickly lost (G/B)a(Am)gain. One Funeral At A Time Words Brad DeLong, Music Jan Hauenstein (Em) (C) (D) (C) (Am7) (D7) (G)(hold) (D)(hold) An (G)old man sits in an (D)oval room, thinking (C)thoughts of selfish (D)greed, Which he (Em)hurls at his base in a (C)petulant stream of (Am)tweets and (Am7)unscripted (D)screed. His (G)minions obey his (D)shouted commands, based (C)on his unearned (D)power, His (Em)ancient ideas were hatched (C)years ago in the (Am)bowels of his (Am7)golden (D)tower. (Em) (C) (D) (C) (Am7) (D7) (G)(hold) He says: (F)“Old ideas die (C)slowly, ‘cause (D)old ideas are (G)right: (Em)Foreign folks are (C)dangerous (Am) because their skin ain’t (D)white. (F)Climate change is (C)crazy, ‘cause (D) solar power’s a (G)bore; (Em)Electric cars got no (C)thrilling roar when you (Am)stomp the pedal (Am7)to the (D)(hold)floor.” He says: (F)“Old ideas die (C)slowly; (D)old ideas always (G)lurk. (Em)Poor folks ask for (C)poverty, they´re always (Am)drunk, they never (D)work. (F)Don’t tax a rich man; he (C)needs his dough, he de(D)serves each cent he (G)earns, And you’ll (Em)know how much I (C)keep for me when you (Am)see my (Am7)tax re(D)(hold)turns, On the 12th of Never.” (F) (C) (D) (G) (Em) (C) (Am) (Am7) (D)(hold) (Em) (C) (D) (C) (Am7) (D7) (G)(hold) (D)(hold) (G)Dried up ideas from scle(D)rotic brains float a(C)round us like cinerary (D)dust And (Em)threaten to bury our mo(C)rality. To re(Am)cover our (Am7)freedom, we (D)must Teach our (G)children to avoid (D)rotten ideas, all (C)covered with mold and (D)slime. Hang (Em)on to your truth (C)and you’ll win: (Am)One funeral (Am7)at a (D)time, Hang (Em)on to your truth (C)and you’ll (D)win: (C)One funeral (Am7)at (D7)a (G)time. Words WB DeLong, Orofino, Idaho, 09 September 2017, Music Jan Hauenstein, Goettingen, 11 September 2017 Physicist Max Planck: “A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.” Max Planck‘s grave is 300 meters from my house. janhauenstein@gmx.de www.janhauenstein.com

Changes 03:34
Changes Phil Ochs - Instrumental verse - (C) Sit by my (D)side, come as (G)close as the (Am)air, (C) Share in a (D)memory of (Bm)gray, And (Em)wander in my (Am)words, (D) Dream about the (G)pictures that I (Am)pla(D)y Of (G)changes. (C) Green leaves of (D)summer turn (G)red in the (Am)fall, To (C)brown and to (D)yellow they (Bm)fade. And (Em)then they have to (Am)die, (D)Trapped within the (G)circle time pa(Am)r(D)ade Of (G)changes. (C) Scenes of my (D)young years were (G)warm in my (Am)mind, (C) Visions of (D)shadows that (Bm)shine. 'Til (Em)one day I re(Am)turned And (D)found they were the (G)victims of the (Am)v(D)ines Of (G)changes. The (C)world's spinning (D)madly, it (G)drifts in the (Am)dark, (C) Swings through a (D)hollow of (Bm)haze, A (Em)race around the (Am)stars, A (D)journey through the (G)universe a(Am)bl(D)aze With (G)changes. - Instrumental verse - (C) Moments of (D)magic will (G)glow in the (Am)night, All (C)fears of the (D)forest are (Bm)gone. But (Em)when the morning (Am)breaks, They're (D)swept away by (G)golden drops of (Am)d(D)awn, Of (G)changes. (C) Passions will (D)part to a (G)strange melo(Am)dy, As (C)fires will (D)sometimes burn (Bm)cold. Like (Em)petals in the (Am)wind, We're (D)puppets to the (G)silver strings of (Am)so(D)uls, Of (G)changes. Your (C)tears will be (D)trembling, now (G)we're somewhere (Am)else, One (C)last cup of (D)wine we will (Bm)pour, I'll (Em)kiss you one more (Am)time, And (D)leave you on the (G)rolling river (Am)sh(D)ores Of (G)changes. When he sees an unmowed lawn You´ll see him race, With a jump he´s on his riding lawn mower, And the fate of the lawn is sealed racingly fast! He races around the lawn, roar, roar, roar, Mows down millions of gazillions blades of grass. Cows are mooing, sheep are bleating When they witness the death of their dinner! Here comes the lawn tractor man, He mows that lawn as fast as only he can, The lawn tractor man! The lawn tractor man, I give you my word, Holds the lawn tractor mowing world record! He never rests, he mows and races and races and mows, Until really not another single blade of grass will fit into the grass-catching bag! The cow and the sheep, the rabbits and the hares, See the lawn tractor man race across their lawn, Behind him the lawn is wasted, empty and dead - Grazing is, after all, those animals’ bread. Here comes the lawn tractor man, He mows that lawn as fast as only he can, The lawn tractor man! The pain of the grass-nibbling animals does not bother him, I mow the lawn, he says, and that’s the way it is! I am the lawn tractor man, I mow that lawn as fast as only I can, I am the lawn tractor man! I mow! Bleat bleat, blu-bleat bleat bleat, Blu-blu-blu-blu-bleat bleat, blu-bleat bleat bleat, Bleat bleat. blu-blu-blu-bleat bleat bleat, Blu-blu-blu-blu-bleat bleat, blu-blu-blu-blu-bleat! Mow that lawn! He mows the lawn, be there rain, lightning or storm, Saves not a small blade of grass, no fine earthworm, There! A thunderbolt strikes lawn tractor man dead at the wheel, Relieved, the nibblers and the ruminants squeal: He was the lawn tractor man, He used to mow faster than Superman can, He was the lawn tractor man, The famous naked lawn tractor man, The one and only lawn-killing, world record-holding, Dumb and ugly, fast and furious, arrogant and stupid lawn tractor man!

about

Sweet, sad, angry, beautiful and goofy songs. Originals, some co-written with Fred Grittner, Terry Lee Ransom and Brad DeLong, and a few covers. Shelley´s 'Ozymandias' with my music, Rilke's 'Der Panther' translated into English and put to music.
Fred Grittner mastered the album and played guitar, Charlie Woodward played guitar, Claudia Wichmann sang. More than 60 minutes. Good album.

about

Jan Hauenstein Göttingen, Germany

More than background music.
You'll hear folk, blues, jazzy songs, rock. Big voice. Albums recommended by Gordon Bok, Harvey Andrews, Jez Lowe and others.

Why no free uploads? I cover songs. Register them with the German music rights agency GEMA. They hopefully reimburse the artists. The tax authorities demand that I make (not lose) a little money each year...
