lyrics

An Old King Jan Hauenstein

(Am) (Bb) (Am) (E)
An (Am)old king, (Bb)sitting at his desk,
Wonders (Am)why nobody noticed his (E)kingliness.
He (Am)thought he took a kingly stance, he (Bb)did the best he could,
Now his (Am)hair is gray and his (E)hands are woo(E7)d.

An (Am)old messiah, (Bb)sitting in a tree,
Sobs and (Am)wonders, ‘Why is this (E)happening to me?’
He (Am)thought he believed in the (Bb)meek and the mild,
Now his (Am)jeans are torn and his (E)eyes are wil(E7)d.

(Fj7)Try to make a difference, (Cj7)give it all you´ve got,
(E)Folks will not (E7)notice, more (Am)often than not. (Am/G) (Fj7) (G)
(Am) (Am/G) (Fj7) (G)

An (Am)old philosopher, (Bb)sitting on a stone,
Wonders (Am)why nobody ever (E)gifted him a throne.
He (Am)thought he thought the deep thoughts, (Bb)solved every riddle,
Now his (Am)mind is blind and (E)split right down the midd(E7)le.
- Instrumental verse -

(Fj7)Try to make a difference, (Cj7)give it your best shot,
(E)Folks will not (E7)notice, more (Am)often than not. (Am/G) (Fj7) (G)
(Am)Folks will not notice. (Am/G) (Fj7) (G)

An (Am)old songwriter, (Bb)sitting on a stool,
Wonders (Am)why everybody (E)took him for a fool.
He (Am)thought he rhymed and sang so well, he (Bb)roared and he swore,
Now his (Am)heart is lead and his (E)throat is sor(E7)e.

(Fj7)Try to make a difference, (Cj7)give it all you´ve got,
(E)Folks will not (E7)notice, more (Am)often than not. (Bb) (Am) (E)
(Fj7)Try to make a difference, (Cj7)give it your best shot,
(E)Folks will not (E7)notice, more (Am)often than not. (Am/G) (Fj7) (G)
(Am)Folks will not notice,(Am/G) (Fj7) (G)
More (Am)often than not. (Am/G) (Fj7) (G) (Am)

Wrote this song while grading final exam papers, so here goes:

An old teacher, ripping out bushels of his hair,
Wails and cries and weeps in the deepest dark despair.
He thought he taught them well, made them learn the golden rules,
Now he grades the papers, sees he did not reach the fools.

Why no free uploads? I cover songs. Register them with the German music rights agency GEMA. They hopefully reimburse the artists. The tax authorities demand that I make (not lose) a little money each year...
