Ten men with big hands and eyes full of blood,
They had the steel to make that deal in the drizzle and the mud.
(Dm) The air smells like kerosene, there was a shotgun standing (Am)by,
The only light in the (Dm)whole damn room was the (F)gleam in the ten men´s (Am)eyes.

Ten men in the black hats on a cold, cold night,
Ten black cars sat idling in the glow of the red tail lights.
(Dm) Ten men with the black hearts cutting up the (Am)spoils,
The wind howled in the (Dm)tall tree, there was a (F)pot begin to (Am)boil.

One man got the silver, one got the gold,
One said, “I don´t want nothing, I just don´t ever want to grow old.”
(Dm) One man got the water, they said he got it every(Am)where,
One man said, “I get (Dm)all them messages (F)people send out through the (Am)air.”

They divvied up the green grass, they divvied up the soil.
One got all the iron ore and one got all the oil.
(Dm) One said, “I get the people, they all work for (Am)me.”
Another, his little (Dm)brother, said, “I get (F)all the fishes in the (Am)sea.” (F) (Am)

Ten men in black hats with faces cold and hard,
Said, “This is good for everyone, somebody got to take charge.”
(Dm) And then they all lit their stogies and tipped back in their (Am)chairs,
